Glad you enjoyed Cochon! We haven’t been to Root yet, and the reviews have definitely been mixed. Loved your photos, by the way!

I didn’t mean to put down the Bywater at all, and I’m glad you set me straight – sometimes I tend to overexaggerate my moods and what I see in my writing, so I’m glad you’ve offered another side to it all. Regarding people in New Orleans not working, I’m so sorry if that came off as offensive and brash (I totally didn’t mean it as such). I noticed so many laid back people, not to say they’re not hard working. My friends who live in New Orleans and work their butts off too also talked about the culture of gathering together to eat and drink, I suppose it just wasn’t all worded too correctly. Thanks for your comment though, I loved everything about New Orleans!

Loved Cochon – drinks and food and service was delightful! Wasn’t a huge fan of Root, but maybe that’s just my opinion!

I’m glad you loved Maurepas Foods, as do I, but you don’t exactly flatter the neighborhood or the city. The only lit corner in the the neighborhood? You missed another excellent restaurant right across the street a legendary local bar at the other end of the block, and two blocks away two more excellent restaurants (one of which is closed for dinner, so I’ll give you that one) and another classic New Orleans bar.
As for the line, ” much of the population is content to pass their days without a lick of work, only making efforts to eat and drink with friends and family.” I’d like to know where you got that idea. We might have a high appreciation for GOOD food and GOOD drink, but I would argue that those in our community who aren’t working are very much looking for opportunities, and the rest of us work our butts off so we can enjoy the benefits of living in this wonderful city.
As for the gin fizz with milk- it’s the Ramos Gin Fizz- did you try it? Because when it’s made well, it is almost as refreshing as a Pimm’s Cup on a hot summer day- in my opinion. Of course, if you tried it, and you didn’t like it, then I’m glad you at least tried it.
I can’t tell if you enjoyed the rest of your visit or not, but I certainly hope that you did. I’d be curious to know your thoughts on Cochon (which we love) and Root (which we haven’t been to yet) Thank you for posting about Maurepas Foods, as they are great addition to our city. Happy holidays, and I hope you’ll visit again soon.
